Porcelain Tiles
Porcelain tiles are made from a specific blend of clay, sand, and feldspar, fired at high temperatures. This process makes them more dense and durable compared to ceramic tiles.
Advantages
Versatility: Suitable for both internal and external applications.
Modern Design: Features larger sizes and consistent colour for a contemporary look.
Durability: More resistant to wear and tear than ceramic tiles, making them ideal for high-traffic areas.
Precision: Rectified edges ensure consistent, narrow joint gaps.
Low Maintenance: Easy to clean and maintain.
Moisture Resistance: Absorbs less water, suitable for wet areas.
Scratch Resistance: More resistant to scratches and scuff marks.
Disadvantages
Brittleness: More fragile and challenging to cut compared to ceramic tiles.
Batch Variations: Potential for colour, texture, and size differences between batches.
Porcelain Batch Warning
Due to the nature of porcelain manufacturing, variations in colour, texture, and sizes may occur between different batches.
To ensure consistency:
Order Full Quantity: Purchase all tiles from the same batch.
Extra Tiles: Order an additional 3–5% to cover future replacements.
Batch Records: Keep a record of the ‘batch colour code’ from the packaging.
Note that McMonagle Stone cannot guarantee availability of specific batches or maintain batch records.
Porcelain Installation
Twice Qz Dark porcelain tiles are suitable for:
Internal Flooring: Typically 10mm thickness.
External Flooring: Typically 20mm–30mm thickness.
Walls: Depending on tile weight.
High Moisture Areas: Suitable for wet rooms and pool areas.
We recommend using an experienced and reputable professional with a proven track record in laying porcelain tiles. It is advised to lay the tiles in either stack bond or third bond patterns to accommodate tile variances. Using a half bond pattern may highlight these variances and could lead to visible bends and water pooling.
