Porcelain Tiles

Porcelain tiles are manufactured using a unique blend of clay, sand, and feldspar, and fired at higher temperatures, making them denser and harder than ceramic tiles. 

Advantages

Versatile Usage: Ideal for both internal and external applications.

Rectified Edges: Ensures consistent and narrow joint gaps.

Scratch and Scuff Resistant: Ideal for areas with heavy foot traffic. 

Disadvantages

Brittleness: More fragile and challenging to cut.

Batch Variability: Possible variations in colour, texture, and size between batches. 

Porcelain Batch Warning

Porcelain tiles are produced in batches, which can lead to differences in colour, texture, and size.

To ensure consistency:

Order Full Quantity: Buy all tiles needed from the same batch.

Additional Stock: Order an extra 3–5% of the area to account for any future repairs or replacements.

Batch Records: Keep a record of the ‘batch colour code’ from the packaging.

Note that McMonagle Stone cannot guarantee stock from specific batches and does not maintain records of batch numbers.

Porcelain Installation

Oatmeal porcelain tiles are suitable for:

Internal Flooring: Typically 10mm thickness.

External Flooring: Usually 20mm–30mm thickness.

Walls: Depending on weight and application.

High Moisture Areas: Suitable for wet rooms and pool areas.

For optimal results, we recommend using an experienced and reputable professional who has a proven track record with porcelain tiles. It is best to lay the tiles using stack bond or third bond patterns to manage tile variances. Avoid half bond patterns, which can accentuate inconsistencies and cause visible bends or water pooling.
