Porcelain Tiles
Porcelain tiles are crafted from a special blend of clay, sand, and feldspar and are fired at high temperatures, making them denser and harder than ceramic tiles.
Advantages
Versatile Use: Ideal for both internal and external applications.
Modern Aesthetic: Features contemporary designs with large sizes and uniform colour.
Enhanced Durability: More resilient than ceramic tiles, suitable for high-traffic areas.
Precision: Rectified edges ensure narrow and consistent joint gaps.
Low Maintenance: Easy to clean and maintain.
Moisture Resistance: Absorbs less water, making it suitable for wet areas.
Scratch Resistance: More resistant to scratches and scuff marks.
Disadvantages
Brittleness: Can be more fragile and challenging to cut.
Batch Variations: Potential for variations in colour, texture, and sizes between different batches.
Porcelain Batch Warning
Due to the batch manufacturing process, variations in colour, texture, and sizes may occur.
To ensure consistency:
Order Complete Quantity: Purchase all tiles from the same batch.
Extra Tiles: Order an additional 3–5% to account for future repairs or replacements.
Batch Records: Keep the ‘batch colour code’ from the packaging.
McMonagle Stone cannot guarantee stock from specific batches and does not maintain batch records.
Porcelain Installation
Smokey porcelain tiles are suitable for:
Internal Flooring: Typically 10mm thickness.
External Flooring: Typically 20mm–30mm thickness.
Walls: Depending on the weight of the tiles.
High Moisture Areas: Suitable for wet rooms and pool areas.
We recommend using an experienced and reputable professional for installation. Opt for either stack bond or third bond patterns to manage tile variances effectively. Using a half bond pattern might highlight these variances and could result in visible bends and water pooling.
