Porcelain Tiles
Porcelain tiles are crafted from a specialised blend of clay, sand, and feldspar, and are fired at high temperatures. This process results in tiles that are denser and more durable than ceramic tiles.
Advantages
Versatile Usage: Suitable for both internal and external applications.
Modern Aesthetics: Offers contemporary designs with large sizes and consistent colour.
Enhanced Durability: More robust than ceramic tiles, ideal for high-traffic areas.
Precision: Rectified edges provide consistent, narrow joint gaps.
Low Maintenance: Easy to clean and maintain.
Moisture Resistance: Absorbs less water, suitable for wet areas.
Scratch Resistance: More resistant to scratches and scuff marks.
Disadvantages
Brittleness: More fragile and challenging to cut compared to ceramic tiles.
Batch Variations: Colour, texture, and size may vary between different batches.
Porcelain Batch Warning
Due to the batch manufacturing process, there may be variations in colour, texture, and sizes.
To ensure uniformity:
Order Complete Quantity: Purchase all tiles from the same batch.
Additional Tiles: Order an extra 3–5% to cover future repairs or replacements.
Batch Records: Retain the ‘batch colour code’ listed on the packaging.
McMonagle Stone does not guarantee availability from specific batches and does not maintain records of batch numbers.
Porcelain Installation
Jewel Ashen porcelain tiles can be used for:
Internal Flooring: Typically 10mm thickness.
External Flooring: Typically 20mm–30mm thickness.
Walls: Depending on tile weight.
High Moisture Areas: Suitable for wet rooms and pool areas.
We recommend employing an experienced and reputable professional with a proven track record in laying porcelain tiles. It is advisable to lay the tiles in either stack bond or third bond patterns to manage tile variances. Using a half bond pattern might highlight these variances and could lead to visible bends and water pooling.
