Porcelain Tiles
Porcelain tiles are crafted from a specific blend of clay, sand, and feldspar, then fired at high temperatures to achieve greater density and hardness compared to ceramic tiles.
Advantages
Versatile Applications: Suitable for both internal and external use.
Modern Design: Available in larger sizes with consistent colour.
Enhanced Durability: More resistant to wear and tear compared to ceramic tiles.
Rectified Edges: Allows for narrow, consistent joint gaps.
Low Maintenance: Easy to clean and maintain.
High Moisture Resistance: Absorbs less water, making it ideal for wet areas.
Scratch and Scuff Resistant: Perfect for high-traffic areas.
Disadvantages
Brittleness: Can be more brittle and difficult to cut.
Batch Variability: Potential variations in colour, texture, and size between different batches.
Porcelain Batch Warning
Since porcelain is manufactured in batches, variations in colour, texture, and size may occur.
To ensure consistency:
Order Full Quantity: Purchase the entire amount needed from the same batch.
Extra Stock: Order an additional 3–5% of your total area to accommodate future repairs or replacements.
Batch Records: Keep track of the ‘batch colour code’ on the packaging. Note that McMonagle Stone cannot guarantee stock from specific batches and does not maintain batch number records.
Porcelain Installation
Quartz Gold porcelain tiles are suitable for:
Internal Flooring: Typically 10mm thickness.
External Flooring: Generally 20mm–30mm thickness.
Walls: Depending on weight and application.
High Moisture Areas: Ideal for wet rooms and pool areas.
For best results, we recommend using an experienced and reputable professional familiar with porcelain tiles. It is advised to lay the tiles using stack bond or third bond patterns to manage tile variances. Avoid half bond patterns as they may highlight inconsistencies and cause issues like visible bends or water pooling.
